About the Author

Christopher P. Baker

Since 1983, Christopher P. Baker has made his living as a professional travel writer, photographer, lecturer, and tour guide, and is acclaimed for his specialist knowledge of Cuba. He has written for more than 150 publications worldwide, including such publications as diverse as Elle, Caribbean Travel & Life, National Geographic Traveler and The Los Angeles Times; has been profiled in USA Today; appears frequently on radio and television talk shows and as a guest-lecturer aboard cruise ships; and has been privileged to address such organizations as the National Press Club, the World Affairs Council, and the National Geographic Society.

His many books include Cuba Classics: A Celebration of Vintage American Automobiles plus Mi Moto Fidel: Motorcycling Through Castro's Cuba (winner of both the 2002 Lowell Thomas Award for 'Best Travel Book' and the North American Travel Journalist Association's Grand Prize). His awards include the seven prestigious Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards, and the 1995 Benjamin Franklin Best Travel Guide Award (for Moon Handbooks Costa Rica). In 2005, the Caribbean Tourism Organization named him Travel Journalist of the Year and named his Moon Handbooks Cuba the Best Guidebook.

Chris received a Masters degree in Latin American Studies from Liverpool University. He began his writing career in 1978 as Contributing Editor on Latin America for Land & Liberty, a London-based political journal. In 1980, he received a Scripps-Howard Foundation Scholarship in Journalism to attend the University of California, Berkeley. He promotes himself through his website, www.christopherbaker.com.
