Midway down the west side of Cayuga Lake [1] lies Romulus, known for its vineyards and wineries. Two of the best, only five miles apart, are the Swedish Hill Vineyard (4565 Rte. 414, 315/549-8326, www.swedishhill.com [2]) and the Knapp Winery, Vineyards, and Restaurant (2770 County Rd. 128, 607/869-9271, www.knappwine.com [3]). Swedish Hill, a very large operation, produces about 30,000 cases of 25 different kinds of wines a year; Knapp is much smaller, but its wines are among the region’s finest. Both wineries are open April–December, Monday–Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sunday noon–5 p.m.; call for off-season hours.
The breezy Knapp Winery Restaurant (2770 County Rd. 128, 607/869-9481, average lunch entrée $9, average dinner entrée $18) serves lunch daily April–October and dinner on summer weekends; call for hours. Local produce is emphasized.
