Although the old Cooper family mansion was torn down long ago, Cooperstown [1] still contains about 20 buildings that date back to James Fenimore’s time. Most closely associated with Cooper is Christ Church (69 Fair Street, 607/547-9555), consecrated in 1810 on land donated by his father. In Cooper’s fiction the church appears as “New St. Paul’s”; the Cooper family plot is located in the cemetery behind the church.
