The Albany Heritage Area Visitor Center [1] (25 Quackenbush Sq., 518/434-0405, www.albany.org [2]) offers a variety of guided tours April–October, along with free walking-tour maps of downtown. The new Albany Aqua Ducks (518/462-3825) offer combination land-water tours aboard the state’s only amphibious vehicles; the tours leave from the Visitor Center and reservations are required.
One of Albany [3]’s foremost attractions is its architecture. A few highlights are mentioned here; for a thorough, self-guided architectural tour, pick up a copy of Albany Architecture, edited by Diana S. Waite (Mount Ida Press, 518/426-5935). The book outlines eight architectural tours and is available in most Albany bookstores.
