Doral Arrowood (975 Anderson Hill Rd., Rye Brook, 914/939-5500, www.doralarrowwood.com [1], $139–199), a conference center and 114-acre resort, is situated on a Robert von Hagge-designed nine hole golf course and offers a Hot Stix facility which uses a golfer’s swing DNA for a personalized club-fitting. Driving range, pool, tennis, squash, racquetball and sand volleyball courts also available. Though largely used for meetings, good deals are available and it’s a great location to take advantage of as a base to explore the area.

Scoring high in the romance department is the
Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center (E. Sunnyside Ln., 914/591-8200 or 800/553-8118, www.tarrytownhouseestate.com [2], $199–249). It’s housed in two pristine 19th-century estates: one a Greek Revival mansion once owned by B&O Railroad executive Thomas King, the other a sprawling “castle” that belonged to tobacco heiress Mary Duke Biddle. Together, the estates boast lavish gardens, a well-equipped health club, and a billiard room.

One of the most romantic hideaways in Westchester County is the Castle on the Hudson (400 Benedict Ave., 914/631-1980 or 800/616-4487, www.castleonthehudson.com [3], $285–355). Perched on a hill overlooking the Hudson, this authentic castle with its 75-foot-high main tower was built near the turn of the 20th century by the son of a Civil War general. Now a luxury establishment that’s a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and National Trust Historic Hotels networks, it offers 24 deluxe guest rooms and six luxury suites, some with working fireplaces. On the premises is the acclaimed Equus Restaurant.
