Trolley Stop has taken hot dogs ($4–9) to a whole new level. Since the restaurant opened in 1976, the menu has been all hot dogs, all the time.
First, choose the type of hot dog—all-beef Sabrett dogs, all-meat dogs, veggie dogs, or low-fat turkey dogs—and then pick the toppings. Local favorites include the Cape Fear (melted cheese and mayo), the North Carolina (chili, mustard, and coleslaw), and the American (chili, mustard, and onion).
The menu also has grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream, but the hot dogs are the main attraction.
It’s not uncommon for the line to extend out the door and onto Front Street, especially after the bars close on the weekends.
