There is no better place to find a dulcimer. The small Dulcimer Shop is part of the historic Martin House and has been selling dulcimers (stringed instruments that date back to the 1800s) since 1971.
Owners Bill and Jewel Magee specialize in mountain dulcimers, which originated in the southern Appalachian Mountains two centuries ago, from makers like McSpadden Dulcimer and Eckard Dulcimer.
The shop also carries Dulci-Can dulcimers—single-string instruments that are fashioned from a stick and a tin can. The Dulci-Can was invented by the shop’s original owner, Rogers Magee, who still holds the patent on the instrument.
