The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the first museum of modern art in Charlotte [2], includes 35,000 square feet of exhibit space and a 2nd-floor sculpture garden and was designed by renowned architect Mario Botta, the visionary behind the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
The collection was assembled by Andreas Bechtler over the past 75 years and includes 1,200 works from artists like Picasso, Warhol, Degas, Braque, and Klee.
In addition to original works of art, the collection includes volumes of anecdotal materials from the artists, many of whom were personal friends of Bechtler.
