MacBride Museum

North of the Whitehorse Visitor Information Centre [1] and across the road from the river is the excellent MacBride Museum (1124 1st Ave. at Wood St., 867/667-2709, summer daily 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., the rest of the year Tues.–Sat. noon–4 p.m., adult $8, senior $7, child $4.50). The main building is a sod-roofed log cabin filled with historical items, including stuffed Yukon [2] wildlife and hundreds of gold-rush photographs.

Surrounding it are other buildings and equipment: the old government telegraph office, engine No. 51 from the WP&YR, Sam McGee’s cabin, and even a one-ton copper nugget.
