Alberta [1] can be divided into two major geographical areas: the mountain-and-foothill region along its southwestern border, and the plains covering the rest of the province. Within each of these two main areas are distinct vegetation zones, the boundaries of which are determined by factors such as precipitation, latitude, and altitude.
