Across the river from Fort Edmonton Park [1] is Valley Zoo (end of Buena Vista Rd., off 142nd St., 780/496-6911, May–Aug. 9:30 a.m.–6 p.m., the rest of the year daily 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m., adult $9.75, senior $7.25, child $5), which holds approximately 350 animals, representing all seven continents. It is designed mainly for kids, with a petting zoo, camel and pony rides, paddleboats, a miniature train, and cut-out storybook characters.
To get there by bus, take number 12 west along 102nd Avenue to Buena Vista Road and walk 1.6 kilometers (one mile) down to the park. On summer Sundays, bus number 200 leaves on the hour from the University Transit Centre and goes right to the zoo.
