It is a modern, riverfront log building with amenities that include high-speed Internet, a living area with a large-screen TV, and a café with outdoor seating overlooking the Columbia River.
Blaeberry Mountain Lodge (1680 Moberly School Rd., 250/344-5296, www.blaeberrymountainlodge.bc.ca [2], $95–145 s or d) is on a 62-hectare (150-acre) property among total wilderness. Rooms are in the main lodge or self-contained cabins, with plenty of activities available to guests. Blaeberry is nine kilometers (5.6 miles) north of Golden [3] along Highway 1, then seven kilometers (4.3 miles) farther north along Moberly School Road.
Of many new accommodations at the base of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort [4], Copper Horse Lodge (250/344-7644 or 877/544-7644, www.copperhorselodge.com [5], $180–230 s or d includes breakfast) comes highly recommended. Guest rooms are outfitted in earthy yet stylish color schemes and luxuries such as bathrobes, Internet access, and TV/DVD combos. Other amenities include a restaurant, lounge, and outdoor hot tub.
Through the old part of town and over the Kicking Horse River is Golden Municipal Campground (9th St., 250/344-5412, www.goldenmunicipalcampground.com; mid-May–mid-Oct., $20–29). It’s a quiet place, strung out along the river and two kilometers (1.2 miles) from downtown along a riverfront walkway. Facilities include picnic shelters, hot coin-operated showers, and 70 sites with fire pits.
