As you’d expect, most of Winona [1]’s shopping is out along Highway 61, though a number of shops have claimed homes in historic buildings downtown. One of the largest is Pieces of the Past (79 2nd St. E., 507/452-3722, 9:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Tues.–Fri.), which sells things that look old, including handcrafted furniture.
Sugar Loaf Antiques and Crafts (1023 Sugar Loaf Rd., 507/452-9593, www.sugarloafantiquesandcrafts.com [2], 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Sat., 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Sun.) fills the massive old brewery on the hillside, including the storage caves.
The Blue Heron Gallery and Studio (168 3rd St. E., 507/474-6879, www.blueheronstudio.net [3], 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Thurs.–Sat. May–Sept., 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Fri.–Sat. Oct.–Apr.) shows works by a handful of local painters, potters, and furniture makers.
Visitors are welcome to taste and shop at Garvin Heights Vineyards (2255 Garvin Heights Rd., 507/454-71719, www.ghvwine.com [4], 1–5 p.m. Fri.–Sun., hours vary by season) on the bluff above town.
