Kachemak Bay [1] provides a fine opportunity for birders, especially during the spring migration when thousands of sandpipers and other species fill the tide flats. Call the Kachemak Bay Bird Alert (907/235-7337) for a recording of recent bird sightings, or head to www.birdinghomeralaska.org [2] for more information and a link to the Islands and Ocean Center [3]’s bird sightings. The Chamber of Commerce has a weekly sheet listing unusual birds.
In early May, the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival [4] brings guest speakers and bird experts.
