Seven miles out on East End Road, Kachemak Bay Lynx Golf Course (907/235-0606 or 800/295-5969, www.lynxgolfbnb.com [1], daily mid-Apr.–Oct.) is a par-three course with great views of the bay. The little clubhouse rents clubs.
Kachemak Bay [2] is a great place for sailing, and the Homer Yacht Club (907/235-8503, www.homeryachtclub.org [3]) holds semicompetitive races on weekends all summer, with the Land’s End Regatta the last weekend of June. Crewmembers are often needed; contact the club if you’re interested in joining the fun—no experience necessary.
Located three miles out on East End Road, Cycle Logical (907/226-2925, www.cyclelogicalhomer.com [4]) is the local bike shop. Owner Derek Reynolds also rents cruiser bikes through Hackle Shack Fly Shop (907/399-4542, www.kgbalaska.com [5]) on the Spit. Both Homer Saw and Cycle (1532 Ocean Dr., 907/235-8406) and Lands End Resort (907/235-2500) rent mountain bikes. Local water taxis will transport your bikes across the bay at no extra charge; Red Mountain is an especially enjoyable backcountry ride.
Mark Marette of Trails End Horse Adventures (907/235-6393) leads horseback rides in the beautiful Fox River area at the head of Kachemak Bay [2] ($85 for 4 hours).
If you have kids in tow, drive uphill on Bartlett Street, then left on Fairview Avenue to Karen Hornaday Park, where the playground has all sorts of fun adventures.
