Guests stay in modern private cabins (but there is no electricity or phones) and enjoy hearty family-style meals at the lodge. Get there on board a Kenai Fjords Tours boat, and spend a night and two days on the island for $758 d, including meals, kayaking, and an all-day boat tour into Northwestern Fjord.
Angel’s Rest on Resurrection Bay (907/224-7378 or 866/904-7378, www.angelsrest.com [4], Mar.–Sept.) encompasses a variety of lodging options in the Lowell Point area south of town. They include three waterfront cabins ($199 d) and four guest rooms ($169 d), all with private baths and kitchenettes, plus a separate home with a full kitchen ($199 d, $219 for 4 people).
Nine miles southeast of town in Humpy Cove, Orca Island Cabins (907/224-5846, www.orcaislandcabins.com [5], May–Sept.) provides a great way to get in touch with your wild side. Three surprisingly comfortable yurts are perched along the shore of this small island, and a floating cabin is adjacent to the dock. All have decks, kitchenettes, private baths (showers and compost toilet in the yurts), and grills. The cost—including round-trip water taxi from Seward [1]—is $310–335 d, plus $25 for each additional guest. Rates drop if you stay extra days, and kayak rentals are available.
