Alaska’s finest hostel, Juneau International Hostel (614 Harris St., 907/586-9559, www.juneauhostel.org [1], $10) is in a lovely old home just a few blocks uphill from downtown. In addition to dorm space for 46 people, the hostel has a comfortable community room with kitchen facilities as well as a washer and dryer. It does not have a TV, but Wi-Fi and a guest computer are available. The hostel is open year-round, but is closed daily 9 a.m.–5 p.m. The doors are locked at midnight, putting a damper on your nightlife.
The maximum stay is three nights. Rooms are clean, and the managers are friendly, but common areas are often crowded. Reserve ahead in summer, or get here early to be certain of a place.
