Cycle Alaska (907/321-2453, www.cycleak.com [1]) rents quality mountain bikes and has a variety of trips, including fun “bike and brew” tours through Mendenhall Valley with a van ride to the Alaskan Brewing Co. [2] for some sampling afterward. Owner John McConnochie is one of the most experienced cyclists in the area. Bikes are also available from Driftwood Lodge (435 W. Willoughby Ave., 907/586-2280 or 800/544-2239, www.driftwoodalaska.com [3]).
Rock climbers will enjoy a visit to the Rock Dump (1310 Eastaugh Way, 907/586-4982, www.rockdump.com [4], day pass $13), an indoor climbing facility south of Juneau [5] off Thane Road.
Golfers should head to Mendenhall Golf Course (907/789-1221), a nine-hole course near the airport, where $25 gets you the full package. It is not quite up to Arizona standards, but where else would you have a glacier backdrop?
