Behind Juneau [1], Basin Road climbs 1.5 miles to the old AJ Gold Mine. The former compressor building here has been turned into the Last Chance Mining Museum (907/586-5338, www.gastineauchannel.blogspot.com [2], daily 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., 3:30–6:30 p.m. mid-May–late Sept., $4, children free), which houses mining paraphernalia and a 3-D map of the ore body.
