What began as a small gallery crawl has evolved into one of the city’s favorite Friday-night events. On the first Friday of the month, galleries, shops, and restaurants throughout the Crossroads Arts District stay open late for exhibits, artist receptions, and special events. Sporadic street performers provide outdoor entertainment throughout the area.
Most galleries open between 5 and 6 p.m.; arrive early for the best parking.
First Fridays are especially crowded during the warmer months, and the artwalk sometimes coincides with other events like Kansas City [2]’s Pride Festival (www.gaypridekc.com/fest/PrideWeek.php [3]), increasing area congestion.
If you choose to dine out in the Crossroads during First Fridays, eat early or be prepared to wait for a table.
