Eagle Crest Resort (1522 Cline Falls Rd., 541/923-4653, www.eagle-crest.com [1]) has three 18-hole golf courses: Resort and Ridge ($69 for 18 holes, $52–62 resort guests) as well as Challenge (a short 18 holes designed for a 3-hour playing time, $44).

Crooked River Ranch (5195 SW Clubhouse Rd., 541/923-6343 or 800/833-3197, www.crookedriverranch.com [2], $41–46 for 18 holes), an 18-hole par-71 course, is wide open with few trees, but that doesn’t detract from the challenge or the scenic vistas.

A true desert course found in Redmond [3] that requires shot accuracy is the Juniper Golf Club (1938 SW Elkhorn Ave., 541/548-3121, www.junipergolf.com [4], $45–69 for 18 holes). This is an 18-hole par-72 course that snakes through the juniper and lava of the high desert. The prevailing winds and abundance of rocks off the fairway challenge your shot-making abilities.
