Zydeco (919 NW Bond St., 541/312-2899, 5 p.m.–close daily, $11–25) is one of the hottest spots in town. In the summer, its fun bright atmosphere spills out from the open kitchen to lively sidewalk tables. The food, not surprisingly, has creole and Cajun influences—this is where you’ll get central Oregon’s best jambalaya—but also includes other good options, such as pan-roasted steelhead trout in a lemon-caper sauce. Even if you pass on dessert (and the flourless chocolate cake is worth loosening your belt for), be sure to take a free homemade dog biscuit home for your special buddy.
