The upper Rogue River is renowned for one of the world’s best late-winter steelhead fisheries. Numerous highways and back roads offer easy access to 155 miles of well-ramped river between Lost Creek Reservoir, east of Medford [1], and Galice, west of Grants Pass [2].
With fall and spring chinook runs and other forms of river recreation, it’s no accident that the Rogue Valley is home to the world’s top aluminum and fiberglass drift-boat manufacturers. Add rafters, kayakers, and plenty of bank anglers and you can understand why peak salmon or steelhead season is sometimes described as “combat fishing.”
Contact southern Oregon visitors information outlets for rules, regulations, and leads on outfitters; many of the rafting outfitters [3] listed above also offer guided fishing trips.
