Over 20 wineries are found near Jacksonville [1], many of them in the Applegate Valley west of town.
Four miles east of Jacksonville is EdenVale Winery (2310 Voorhies Rd., 541/512-2955, www.edenvalewines.com [2], daily summer, Tues.–Sun. winter), located on the imposing Voorhies estate. EdenVale’s most interesting wines are tempranillo, cabernet franc, chardonnay, and red blends. The tasting room also offers sales and samples of wines from other small Rogue Valley vintners.
About eight miles southwest of Jacksonville in the Applegate Valley is Valley View Winery (1000 Upper Applegate Rd., 541/899-8468 or 800/781-9463, www.valleyviewwinery.com [3], 11 a.m.–5 p.m. daily). While focused on the grape varieties of southern France, Valley View also makes tempranillo, pinot gris, and port. The Bordeaux-style blends are especially good.
With a tasting room that resembles a French villa, Troon Vineyard (1475 Kubli Rd., 541/846-9900, daily Feb.–Dec., Sat.–Sun. Jan.) offers zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, Syrah, and chardonnay, all grown to organic principals, plus a red blend called Druid Fluid.
The tasting room for Jacksonville Vineyards is at Fiasco Winery (8035 Hwy. 238, 541/899-9645, www.fiascowinery.com [4], 11 a.m.–5 p.m. daily). You’ll taste delicious Bordeaux varietals, plus a light quenching Sangiovese and some interesting red blends.
