The food at Il Giardino (5 Granite St., 541/488-0816, 5–9 p.m. daily, $11–22) is as Italian as the Vespa scooter parked in the foyer. No American-style spaghetti and meatballs here, just tried-and-true Italian food by a paesano chef. The rolled eggplant stuffed with goat cheese is one haymaker of an appetizer, and the pasta dishes bring Old World taste back home. A half-dozen seafood entrées come with salad made from fresh organic greens. Daily specials are also always a good bet, as is a wine list well-suited to all palates and pocketbooks. Seating is limited, so reservations are strongly recommended.
