A couple of miles north of Seal Rock [1], the beguiling Ona Beach State Park on the west side of the highway includes a forested picnic area with a quarter-mile trail and a footbridge over Beaver Creek leading to a fine stretch of beach. The park is open for day use only; call 800/551-6949 for information.
Two miles east of Ona Beach, up Beaver Creek Road, is the Beaver Creek State Natural Area, a coastal wetland area with good paddling (ranger-led kayak tours at South Beach State Park, South Beach State Park Hospitality Center, 541/867-6590, 8:30 a.m. Mon.–Fri., 6 p.m. Thurs. July–Aug., $15, reservations recommended) and wildlife watching, both from the creek and from a viewing blind that’s just a short walk from the road.
