Join a ranger-led kayak tour at South Beach State Park (South Beach State Park Hospitality Center, 541/867-6590, 8:30 a.m. Mon.–Fri., 6 p.m. Thurs. July–Aug., $15, reservations recommended). Kayaks, paddles, and life vests are supplied for the two-hour tours, which travel along Beaver Creek and offer a chance to see lots of wildlife, including great blue herons, immature bald eagles, turkey vultures, and signs of beavers, such as their lodges.
Kayakers on evening tours have a pretty good chance of actually seeing beavers. This is pretty gentle paddling, but not suitable for children under age six; kids under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
