Shepperd’s Dell is named for a settler who retreated here for spiritual renewal because of the lack of good roads to a nearby church. This lush forested canyon cut by a waterfall is one of the visual highlights of the Gorge [1] despite the fact that little of this splendor is apparent from the road.
An 80-yard sloping paved walkway descends from a bridge (and a parking lot east of it), the intricate architecture of which can be appreciated with a glance over your shoulder.
Chances are, however, your gaze will be riveted by Shepperd’s Dell Falls coursing down out of the forest to plummet sharply over a precipice.
