From its humble beginnings in a suburban strip mall, Hiroshi Restaurant (926 NW 10th Ave., 503/619-0580, 6:30–9:30 p.m. Mon., 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m. and 6:30–9:30 p.m. Thurs., 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m. and 6:30–10 p.m. Fri., 6:30–10 p.m. Sat., sushi $6–17) has moved to a handsome location just off Jamison Square [1] in the heart of the Pearl.
The reason that Hiroshi’s sushi and sashimi is so outstanding is the quality of the fish itself. Most of Portland [2]’s 50-plus sushi restaurants source their fish from the same distributor, so it’s no wonder there’s a sameness to the product. Hiroshi has developed its own network of fish distributors, ensuring that the restaurant has fish of premium quality and freshness. You’ll pay a bit more than at your neighborhood sushi joint, but the difference in quality is notable.
