An institution in Portland [1], Alexis (215 W. Burnside St., 503/224-8577, 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m. and 5–10 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m. and 5–11 p.m. Fri., 5–11 p.m. Sat., $15–18), is easily the most popular Greek restaurant in the city, and for good reason. The taverna atmosphere is real, and the Greek home cooking is simple and unfussy, allowing the pungent flavors of lemon, olive oil, lamb, and calamari to shine. Expect belly dancers on weekend evenings.
