Adjacent to the Oregon Zoo [1] is the Portland Children’s Museum (4015 SW Canyon Rd., 503/223-6500, www.portlandcm.org [2], 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily Mar. 1–Labor Day, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Tues.–Sun. Labor Day–Feb.), featuring events and activities for kids aged six months–10 years old.
Hands-on exhibits appeal to kids’ appetite for fun and learning as well as their boundless energy: Visitors can play at construction in Building Bridgetown, excavate rubber “gravel” in the Dig Pit, or just have fun in the Playopolis playground (both indoor and outdoor).
Two studios offer clay and other materials for a small fee for creations that can be taken home, and the Baby Garden provides a place for the littlest guests to romp. A variety of storytelling, music, and movement draws young audiences in the Play It Again Theater.
