Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort [1]: In addition to being a great place to ski (be sure to make it over to the Mineral Basin), Snowbird’s summer activities mean that the adrenaline never stops flowing. If you want to relax, stay at the swank Cliff Lodge and indulge at the Cliff Spa, one of the nicest in the state.

Alta Ski Area [2]: Here’s where old skiers come to…ski their rear ends off! Don’t be surprised if a 70-year-old helps you up from a fall. Alta is a haven for skiers—no snowboarding allowed—and the accommodations are homey and extra-friendly.

Deer Valley Resort [3]: When you need to show off your new ski outfit, do it at Deer Valley. But don’t feel intimidated by the occasional fur-trimmed jacket; although you may ride the lift with a big-time CEO, you’re just as likely to cruise down a perfectly groomed run with the fun-loving members of a blue-collar town ski club.

Park City Winter Activities [4]: Bobsled, luge, and ski-jump competitions were held at Utah Olympic Park during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Now, winter or summer, come here to watch freestyle ski jumping or take a bobsled ride. Guided tours of the competition sites are also available. Or, take a daylong guided backcountry tour and really learn the local geography between Snowbird [1], Alta [2], Solitude [5], Brighton [6], and Park City Mountain Resort [7].

Wasatch Mountain State Park [8]: Located near Heber City, this is Utah’s largest state park, and along with camping, hiking, and great scenic views, it has one of the best public golf courses you’ll find anywhere.
