Most popular with the birthday crowds that descend on the hibachi tables for the food-grilling show, Fujiyama (2555 N. 9th St., 239/261-4332, 5:30–10 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 5:30–11 p.m. Sat.–Sun., main courses from $15) also has one of the area’s better sushi bars, although seating in that part of the restaurant is somewhat limited.
A more dedicated sushi experience can be had at Tokyo Sushi (3743 E. Tamiami Tr., 239/775-3388, 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, main courses from $9). If you deem the strip-mall location to be inadequate in the atmosphere department, they also offer a carry-out menu.
The conveniently located Sushi Thai Too (898 S. 5th Ave., 239/430-7575, 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m. Sun.–Thurs., 11:30 a.m.–11 p.m. Fri.–Sat., main courses from $8) may not have the most creative name, but the super-fresh sushi and largely authentic Thai fare they serve speak for themselves. Stylish and modern interior decor suits the somewhat up-ladder prices on the menu, and the service is exceptional.
