Tucked away on a side street a block or two away from the bustle of Duval Street [1], Nancy Forrester’s Secret Garden (1 Free-School Lane, 305/295-0015, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, $6) is something of a poorly-kept secret. Over the years, Nancy Forrester and her friends have reclaimed several lots in this residential neighborhood and turned them back over to nature, showcasing hundreds of species of tropical plants that are seldom seen in other gardens in the United States.
The gardens only take up an acre, but visitors are completely immersed in a natural and pastoral experience complete with reptiles, birds, and even a few cats.
