Driving along 22nd Street from the southern edge of Little Havana [1], one begins to notice the canopy of banyan trees hanging over the street becoming a little thicker. Eventually the street changes names, first to Coral Way and then, after you cross SW 37th Avenue, you’re on the famous Miracle Mile, Coral Gables’s historic and upscale shopping district.
Although the Mile isn’t the only thing to see in Coral Gables—make sure to explore the residential neighborhood that houses the Venetian Pool [2] and the Biltmore Hotel [3]—the atmosphere it projects as a moneyed oasis in the heart of rough-and-tumble Miami [4] is quite appropriate.
