Get a glimpse of how Sedona [1]’s pioneers lived long before the tourists and art galleries arrived in Jordan Historical Park. Tour Jordan House, now the Sedona Heritage Center (735 Jordan Rd., 928/282-7038, www.sedonamuseum.org [2], 11 a.m.–3 p.m. daily, $3), to see the family’s 1930 one-room cabin restored with some of its original furnishings.
The home’s additions now showcase exhibits about life in early Sedona, from the rough work of farmers and cowboys to an old-fashioned schoolroom. Visitors can also learn about the nearly 100 movies filmed in the area, many shot during Hollywood’s Golden Age of westerns.
Be sure to venture out to the Apple Packing Shed, which houses Walter Jordan’s original apple grading machine, an ingenious bit of frontier ingenuity that sorted his orchard’s fruit by quality and size.
