Cowpokes crave Rustler’s Rooste (8383 S. 48th St., 602/431-6474, 4–10 p.m. daily, $15–28). This giant barnlike restaurant is perched on South Mountain and offers splendid views of Phoenix [1]. The two-story waterfall, giant live steer, and hefty servings of steak, ribs, and corn on the cob force even the most urban epicurean to pick up a country twang and salivate for good ole chuckhouse grub. Oh, and the best part? You can avoid the stairs and instead opt for a two-story slide that whizzes eaters between floors. The restaurant is full of gimmicks, but the great atmosphere and live music are pure fun.
