Finding sights in Puerto Plata [1] is easy if you remember certain streets for directional purposes if you’re walking or driving around on your own. Puerto Plata’s Malecón (the street that runs along the sea) is called Avenida Circunvalación Norte and Avenida General Luperón as it gets closer to the end where it meets up with the Fuerte San Felipe [2].

Six blocks to the southwest (inland) is the Parque Central (actually called Parque Independencia), which is sandwiched between Calle José del Carmen Ariza and Calle Separación. A main street to keep in mind is Avenida Beller. It is the road immediately to the north of the Parque Central and runs east–west. Following Avenida Beller to the east will take you toward Playa Dorada and then the airport.

Playa Dorada is the gated resort complex containing many all-inclusive resorts located 2.5 kilometers east of Puerto Plata.
