There are many tour and excursion companies in Sosúa [1]. Do a little shopping around and ask a lot of questions about what you’ll get for your money. Many tour operators offer local excursions as well as ones that take you as far away as the mountains of the Cordillera Central or the capital city. It is important to find out how long the trip will take, including transportation and activity time at your destination. Choose a different company if the other allows you more or less time (whichever you prefer) at your destination.
As you enter Playa Sosúa [2], there is a tourist information kiosk (tel. 809/571-1868, cell 809/223-5068) that offers glass-bottom boat excursions that take you for a 40-minute tour of Sosúa Bay to show you the colorful and varied coral formations and sea life for which Sosúa Bay is famous (US$12). Tours leave every 45 minutes. The kiosk offers many other excursions.
Melissa Tours (Calle Duarte 2, tel. 809/571-2567, 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 8 a.m.–noon Sat.) is a locally owned tour company that offers excursions and tours to various places throughout the country, such as Samaná [3] (US$30), and even one to Haiti (US$65).
