During the first full weekend in December, Mission Tumacácori [2], about six miles south of Tubac [3] along the frontage road, hosts a festival featuring dozens of food vendors and craft booths, live music, kids’ activities, and a traditional mariachi mass celebrated in front of the ruin of the 17th-century mission, which was founded, like its sister to the north San Xavier del Bac [4], by Padre Kino during his legendary forays into the Santa Cruz Valley. During the festival admittance to the national park is free.
