There are several terrific breakfast spots in Vieques [1]. In addition to your typical eggs, Mamasonga (Calle Plinio Peterson, Isabel Segunda, 787/741-0103, daily 8 a.m.–4 p.m., $3.95–8.95) serves great German apple pancakes and French toast, plus muesli for the health-conscious. Lunch items include black-bean soup, burgers, nachos, Cuban sandwiches, quesadillas, and salads. There’s also a full bar.

Another option is Belly Buttons Café and Grill (62 Calle Flamboyan, Esperanza, 787/741-3336, daily 7:30 a.m.–2 p.m., $4.50–7.50), serving eggs, French toast, bagels, sandwiches, and salads outside on picnic tables. Call ahead for curb service.
