Situated on La Ruta Panorámico, Adjuntas is known as the “Switzerland of Puerto Rico [1]” because of its cool temperatures. The municipality maintains an average 72 degrees year-round thanks to the high altitude. Adjuntas is also known as the “City of the Sleeping Giant,” named after the shape of the mountain range’s silhouette.
The sleepy little agricultural town is best known for the production of citron and coffee, but in the early 1990s Adjuntas gained notoriety for a rash of reports of UFO sightings in the area.
An easy 20-mile drive up Highway 10 from Ponce [2], Adjuntas is a great centrally located place to explore the Cordillera Central [3] for budget travelers looking for low-cost accommodations.
