Arte Guavate (Carr. 184, km 28.5, 787/263-3588, Mon.–Fri. 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m.) is a small roadside shop selling a wide variety of local crafts and food items. There’s a large selection of wooden mortar-and-pestle sets, including one four feet tall, which are instrumental in the preparation of Puerto Rican cuisine.
You’ll also find hammocks, wood carvings, ceramics, musical instruments, and bottles of homemade Jíbaro Vinaigrette, a flavored vinegar for seasoning meats, vegetables, and salads.
