With so many travelers finding themselves transfixed by Utila [1]’s reefs and low-key lifestyle, plenty of apartments are up for rent. Prices can range anywhere from US$200–600, depending on what kind of place you’re looking for, but average places go for US$400–500 a month for a one-bedroom. Among the hotels offering long-term rentals are Cooper’s Inn [2] (US$400/month for a one-bedroom, US$550/month for a two-bedroom) as well as Freddy’s Place [2] and Countryside Inn.
Bananaville Apartments (tel. 504/3369-2298, rm.paradisecove [at] gmail [dot] com) is one recommended lodging, in a residential area roughly 15 minutes walk from the municipal dock. The one-bedroom apartments rent for US$500 per month, and two single beds can be added to squeeze in four people if needed. Monthly renters are preferred, but weekly renters are considered based on availability, at the rate of US$150 per week.
Sandstone Apartments (tel. 504/425-3692), out on the point, offers rentals for US$450–800 per month, while a one-bedroom at the newly constructed Caribbean Dreams is US$450 a month. Many other places can be found by asking around, particularly through dive masters and instructors, or on www.aboututila.com [3].
