Semana Santa [1], or Easter Week, is quite a spectacle in Santa Rosa [2], with elaborate parades throughout the week. Locals create beautiful carpets of colored sawdust and flowers on the streets for the processions to walk on. The culminating parade is the Via Crucis on Friday morning, with “Jesus” carrying his cross through town in a solemn procession.
Another great time to visit is during one of the thrice-annual Feria de los Llanos [3]. This artisanal fair with music and cultural performances is held August 25–30, the second week of April, and the second week of December.
