Plaza San Sebastián

From the central plaza [1], turn left at the road on the far side of the church to reach the smaller Plaza San Sebastián, a broad cement square that’s often occupied by high schoolers playing basketball and soccer. At the opposite end is a church in the works, Templo San Sebastián, built on the remains of the 18th-century original that was started but never completed (check out the thick stone walls along the base).

According to legend, construction was abandoned on the first one after the statue of San Sebastián, which was to be installed there, kept mysteriously moving itself to the main church on the central plaza. Village leaders took that to mean the saint was unhappy with the location, and the church was never completed.
