Located in the former home of archaeologist Frans Blom and photographer Gertrude Duby Blom, the Museo Na Bolom (Av. Vicente Guerrero 33, tel. 967/678-1418, www.nabolom.org [1], 10 a.m.–7 p.m. daily, US$3.50 general, US$2 student) showcases the couples’ pioneering work in protecting the rain forest of eastern Chiapas and the reclusive Lacandón (Hach Winic) indigenous peoples who live there.
Exhibits are displayed in the home’s numerous rooms, ranging from descriptions of Lacandón life and customs, to presentations of studies conducted by visiting researchers, to a large collection of colonial-era religious art. There’s an impressive research library and innumerable black-and-white photographs taken by Duby Blom.
Guided tours (4:30 p.m. Tues.–Sun., US$4.50) of the museum and home are offered in English and Spanish, and include a film on the Bloms’ work with the Lacandón. There is also an excellent gift shop across the street.
