On the riverfront at the end of the main road,
Escudo Jaguar (tel. 001-502/5353-5637 or 001-502/5328-6967, www.escudojaguarhotel.com [1], US$20–60, camping US$7 pp) has comfortable pink thatch-roofed cabañas, ranging in size from one to three beds. All have ceiling fans, mosquito nets, and 24-hour electricity; smaller units have shared bathrooms, while larger ones have private bathrooms plus writing desks and private patios with hammocks.
Escudo Jaguar has long been Frontera Corozal [2]’s preferred hotel, including for tour groups, and as a result is occasionally full. Note that the telephone is a Guatemalan number, although the hotel is in Mexico.
Nueva Alianza (tel. 502/5353-1395, www.ecoturlacandona.com [3], US$7 pp camping, US$110 pp shared cabins, US$20–60 private cabins) has somewhat simpler accommodations but a more atmospheric location (and generally fewer visitors). Options include camping, large dorm-style cabins, and private units set in a leafy grove.
Escudo Jaguar (tel. 502/5353-5637 or 502/5328-6967, www.escudojaguarhotel.com [1], 7 a.m.–8 p.m. daily, US$5–10) and Nueva Alianza (tel. 502/5353-1395, www.ecoturlacandona.com [3], 7 a.m.–8 p.m. daily, US$5–10) both have restaurants catering to tour groups, but open to all, serving decent regional fare in large palapa-covered dining areas.
Museo Comunitario Frontera Corozal [4] (tel. 55/5329-0995, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. daily) has a small eatery serving simple but reliable meals, including a daily comida corrida (lunch special) that includes soup, main dish, and drink.
