If you hop a bus with the destination “Bonfim” or “Ribeira” from Praça Cairu, Campo Grande, or anywhere else in the city, you will find yourself sailing through the length of the Cidade Baixa [1], following the 8-kilometer (5-mile) route taken by worshippers and revelers who, on the second Thursday of every January, make their way in a procession to one of Brazil [2]’s most famous churches: the Igreja de Nosso Senhor do Bonfim [3].
