Stylish pousadas are hard to come by around Porto Belo [1], and even more basic accommodations don’t come cheap. Most hotels are situated along the adjacent beaches of Bombas and Bombinhas.

Hotel Cores do Mar (Rua Martim Pescador 125, Bombas, tel. 47/3369-1435, www.hotelcoresdomar.com.br [2], R$130–180 d) is a modern hotel close to the beach with simple rooms painted in tropical sherbet hues. All rooms possess small balconies. A swimming pool, Internet café, and surrounding garden are welcome features.

In Porto Belo, the Pousada Vila Verde (Rua Domingos Jaques 867, Praia do Perequê, www.pousadavilaverde.tur.br [3], R$140–275 d) is a bright, sunny, attractive hotel with a pool facing right onto popular Praia do Perequê. Rooms are basic but airy and appealing, with balconies overlooking the sea.

One of the few really charming options in the region is the Pousada Quintal do Mar (Av. Aroeira da Praia 1641, Praia de Mariscal, tel. 47/3393-4389, www.quintaldomar.com.br [4], R$179–299 d). Each of the quartet of exquisitely designed and decorated apartments within this pale yellow beachfront villa is like a small but beautiful home. Creature comforts extend from the fine linens and CD players in the rooms to the garden gazebos with hammocks and pillows that are very conducive to lounging. Children under 12 are prohibited.
